What a great choice! John and Barb made us feel right at home. The Carriage House is nestled on 10 wooded acres just north of Bayfield. Close to town, but secluded by nature in every direction. This was truly a home away from home. Super clean accommodations and spectacular hiking trails and wildlife. We usually stay in a hotel while on vacation, but decided to try something different on this get-away. Of the many places we've stayed throughout the years, the Carriage House tops the list in every aspect. John and Barb are shining examples of what makes Wisconsin great! We will definitely stay there again.
The carriage house was perfect for our stay. Beautiful, clean and well maintained house and property. The garage was large and was just what we needed for bikes and such. Close to hiking, biking, and all things outdoors, as well as, restaurants and pubs for yummy food and drinks. John was super helpful recommending bike trails and other outdoor adventures. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to others.
But just how nice both Barb and John are is the big difference maker for us: Last season we got our dates mixed up and cancelling was easy and they just kept our deposit for the next time we'd be able to drive up, which we did for Book Across the Bay.

Absolutely wonderful place to stay while exploring the beauty of the Apostle Islands National Park. Property was clean, comfortable and very well stocked with anything we needed. Barbara and John were fantastic hosts who assisted us with anything we needed ... even including a personal kayaking tour of the Sea Caves (thank you John). My daughters and I had a fabulous getaway together and we can't wait to go back. Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for our stay!
This was our first time to Bayfield and we loved it. The Carriage House was so nice and quiet. We had our own private residence with a very comfortable living area. Loved the hiking trail around the property! John and Barb are great hosts - and our favorite part of the trip was kayaking with John to the sea caves. Remarkable experience! Thank you John and Barb!
We love this place so much we have stayed at Barb's and John's for two years in a row. Yes, great location, just outside downtown to make it a fun bike ride in the summer, awesome accomodations in a split level format, full kitchen, 2 bedrooms and Netflix and Roku for those lazy afternoons, and they include bikes and kayaks for their guests.
